Hotels in Kadıköy & Istanbul's Asian Side
Kadıköy and the wider Asian side are where Istanbul actually lives and eats — a superb food and neighbourhood-bar quarter with 2026 room rates from about $180 a night — but you should know upfront that luxury does not concentrate here: there are almost no five-star hotels on this shore, and we steer luxury travellers back across the water while flagging Kadıköy as a brilliant idea for a second, more local visit.
Who should stay here
Come to Kadıköy for the real, unvarnished city: the produce market, the fish restaurants, the record shops and the best casual eating in Istanbul, all a short ferry from the European shore. It is a wonderful place to spend a day, or to base yourself on a repeat trip when you already know the monuments and want to live like a local. But be clear-eyed about the hotels — the Asian side is residential rather than hospitality-led, and it has essentially no international five-star properties, so a first-time luxury traveller will feel stranded from both the grand hotels and the headline sights. If this is your first Istanbul trip and you want luxury, book the European Bosphorus shore in Beşiktaş and simply ferry over to Kadıköy for lunch.
For genuine five-star luxury, we’d point you to the Bosphorus shore instead — see our where-to-stay guide.
Getting around
The Kadıköy ferry is the joy of this side — frequent crossings from Eminönü, Beşiktaş and Karaköy deliver you across the Bosphorus in about twenty minutes with the skyline as your view. The Marmaray line stops at Ayrılık Çeşmesi for the rail tunnel under the strait, and the driverless M4 metro runs inland from Kadıköy toward Sabiha Gökçen Airport (SAW). For arrivals, SAW is the closer airport to this shore, roughly 45 minutes by car.
